York, P.A.- An early first half goal proved to be enough as the Clarkson University Women's Soccer team fell 1-0 to York College of Pennsylvania, Saturday afternoon.
The Golden Knights dropped to 1-2-0 on the season, while the Spartans improved to 3-0-1.
York orchestrated a few good chances early on as the hosts used the width of the field to their advantage forcing Knights goalie Molly DiCaprio into action, as the senior made three saves in the opening seven minutes to keep the game level. Clarkson's best chance of the first half came just over 13 minutes in. Emily LeBlanc picked up a pass in the attacking third and fed Lillian Gillett on the right side who cut around a defender but could not pick a corner past Joss Metz in the York goal. Clarkson controlled the first half shot numbers outshooting York 9-4.
The Spartans found the back of the net on the very next play when the punt from Metz found its way into the Clarkson end. Capitalizing on a misplaced pass, Alyssa Russell played Olivia Dingman to the middle as Dingman sprayed a long looping ball to the right side over the Knight's back line for Julianna Schilling to run onto and slot past DiCaprio in the 15th minute.
Into the second-half, both teams became locked in a possession battle in the midfield with clear-cut chances hard to come by. The hosts took control of the shots on goal as Clarkson was able to generate just two shots in the second 45 compared to York's four.
Clarkson led the game in shots (11-8), while York held the advantage in shots on goal (6-5) and corners (4-3) Dicaprio and Metz both made five saves in their respective goals.
The Golden Knights return to the North Country as they travel to SUNY Canton on September 10th, before heading back on the road until October 5th when they return for a Liberty League matchup with William Smith at Hantz Field.
