Knights Sweep New Paltz and Potsdam in First Meet of 2025

Potsdam, NY – Six student-athletes won multiple individual events for the Clarkson University Swimming & Diving team as the Golden Knights swept their tri-meet against SUNY New Paltz and SUNY Potsdam Tuesday afternoon at Fuller Pool.

The Golden Knights' men beat the Bears (204-18) and SUNY New Paltz (189-47) handily, while the Clarkson women also came up just short of two 100-point plus wins, beating Potsdam (163-52) by triple digits and SUNY New Paltz (157-76) by high double figures. Clarkson's final dual meet of the season comes in another 12 days when the team faces the Bears once again.

Clarkson's women picked up their first two victories of the year thanks to a solid all-around effort. Evelyn Vieira won both boards, picking up first-place points in the 1-meter dive (202.50) and in the 3-meter dive (208.15). Senior Gabriela McSwieney started the individual races with a win in the 800 freestyle (10:25.95) and then hit the pad first in the 100 freestyle (1:05.42). First-year collegian Natasha Hurff won the mid-range freestyle events, claiming first in the 200 freestyle (2:21.38) and then the 400 freestyle (4:56.89). Classmate Fiona Reilly won two specialty events, taking the 200 individual medley (2:37.46) and 100 breaststroke (1:24.16). Fellow freshman Aurora Zary also won an event, picking up first-place points in the 100 backstroke (1:13.09).

The Golden Knights' women also won both of the relays, as Zary, Reilly, Dani McDonald, and McSwieney combining for 2:14.61 in the 200 medley relay and Hurff, Kirsten Iles, Katelyn Otis, and Ava Lamontagne putting together a time of 2:04.74 in the 200 freestyle relay.

Like the women, Clarkson's men also won both relays. Michael Schroeder, Andrew Sammons, Landon Colby, and Gavin Stuhler finished in 1:52.46 in the 200 medley relay and Andrew Sypko, Owen White, Mason Cartier, and Stuhler ended the day with a first-place finish in the 200 freestyle relay.

Only two on the men's side won multiple events as the Knights spread out the points among the top swimmers. Casey Everett won both of the longer freestyle races, picking up the first-place spot in the 800 freestyle (9:10.73) and later the top placement in the 400 freestyle (4:22.47). The other Clarkson competitor to win twice was diver Gavin Cibelli, as he scored 234.55 points in the 3-meter and 219.10 in the 1-meter.

Other winners for the Knights were Tristan Miranda (200 freestyle, 2:03.70), Gavin Stuhler (50 freestyle, 24.74), Owen White (200 individual medley, 2:21.66), Michael Schroeder (100 butterfly, 1:00.34), Hannes Lohse (100 freestyle, 56.48), and Calvin Woolfolk (100 breaststroke, 1:07.28).
