Oswego, NY – Junior Eric Spoth went one-under on three of his last five holes of the day to help lead the Clarkson University Golf team to a first-place showing through 18 holes at the Oswego Fall Golf Invitational, held at the par-71, 6424-yard Oswego Country Club.

The Golden Knights are five strokes ahead at the halfway point of the two-day tournament with 298 strokes, leading Hobart (303), Nazareth (307), Russell Sage (308), Utica (309), SUNY Canton (310), Oswego State (311), Oswego State 'B' (314), and SUNY ESF (351). Tee times are scheduled to start at 10:30 am tomorrow morning.

Spoth was two-over through nine holes on Saturday after recording seven pars, and then he was down two more strokes following a rough 10th hole. However, Spoth recorded birdies on the 14th, 16th, and 18th holes to get back in the mix, putting him in a tie for second among 51 golfers through 18 holes. He is three strokes off the pace heading into Sunday's round.

Tyler Yacawych posted five pars and a birdie on number-5 on the front nine, but then notched birdies on back-to-back holes on 14 and 15, recording 37 on the front and 37 on the back for a 74, tying him for fourth. One shot behind Yacawych was Ryan Makowski, who had two birdies on the front nine, going one-under on the fifth and eighth holes before adding another on number-16. Makowski is currently tied for seventh in the field after a 75.

Joe Tiderencel had the highest score of any Clarkson golfer on the front nine, but he was a touch better on the back nine and ended his day with a 77, tying for 16th in the field thanks to birdies on the number-3 and number-15.  Luke Weisiger was just one shot behind with a 78, placing him in a tie for 23rd in the tournament at the halfway mark. Weisiger also had a pair of birdies, going one-under on 8 and 15.
