Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Knights Open 2026 With Defeat at Plattsburgh

Plattsburgh, NY – Juniors Addie Kea and Fallon Griffin each scored 13 points for the Clarkson University Women's Basketball team, but the Golden Knights' return to play in 2026 did not go as hoped as the Green and Gold suffered a 59-39 loss to Plattsburgh State in non-league action Friday afternoon.

The Golden Knights fell to 4-5 overall while Plattsburgh pushed its mark to 7-2. Clarkson returns to Liberty League action on Monday when it travels down Route 11 to take on St. Lawrence University.

The Golden Knights began the contest on the right track, scoring seven points in the first three minutes on 3-for-4 shooting before Plattsburgh put up any at the other end. The Knights received early baskets from Addie Kea, Kate Campbell, and a 3-pointer by Fallon Griffin for that early 7-0 lead. The Cardinals would not make a shot until close to the midway point of the first period, but that first make began a prolonged stretch where the home team would make numerous shots in the paint, taking an 11-7 lead with just over 90 seconds remaining in the opening quarter.

Clarkson's shooting woes continued into the second quarter as Plattsburgh scored the first 11 points of the period to take a double-digit lead. A free throw from Griffin ended the stretch and a 3-pointer by Griffin at 4:38 ended another long stretch without a basket. Clarkson had opened the game 3-for-4 from the floor, but went 2-for-20 from the floor until Addie Kea made a pair of layups in the last 70 seconds of the half.

The momentum that the Knights had from Kea's late makes in the second quarter did not carry into the third as the team still struggled from the floor. Meanwhile, Plattsburgh continued to avoid the perimeter and instead worked the ball inside, scoring nearly all of its points in the paint.

In the fourth, long-range shots started to fall for the Knights, but Plattsburgh had built enough of a cushion to keep Clarkson at a safe length and held on for a 20-point win.

Kea had 13 points on 5-for-11 shooting while also adding in six rebounds. Griffin also tossed in 13 points with five rebounds, two blocks, and two steals. For Plattsburgh, Imani Walcott provided more than 40% of the offense, scoring 24 points on 12-for-22 shooting while also adding in seven rebounds and four steals.
