CLARKSON
ATHLETICS HALL of FAME
DAVE TAYLOR '77
Inaugural Class of 1992 Inductee
From his days on junior hockey in the mining town of Levack, Ontario, to his record-setting collegiate seasons with the Golden Knights, through his all-star years with the National Hockey League's Los Angeles Kings, Dave Taylor has epitomized the success of Clarkson's outstanding student-athletes.
During his collegiate days (1973-77) skating as a Golden Knight, Taylor set many records and earned a myriad of honors, including All-American and ECAC Player of the Year recognition in 1977. Named to the ECAC's 1970 All-Decade Team, he was the NCAA leading scorer in the 1976-77 season with 108 points (41-67) in 34 games. He earned the Paul J. Pilon Award and was named Clarkson Senior Athlete of the Year in 1977. Taylor served as team captain in 1975-76, and 1976-77, and was named Clarkson's MVP in 1974, 1976, and 1977. The Green and Gold's all-time leading scorer, he amassed 251 points on 98 goals and 153 assists in 116 career games.
Taylor has continued that prolific pace in his professional career. As a 15th round draft pick and the 210th player chosen overall in the 1975 entry draft, the hardworking Clarkson right wing wasn't expected to make much of a mark in the NHL, Taylor, however, did not rest on his college laurels and has stood tall in the pro game, setting a course toward a revered spot in the NHL's Hall of Fame. He entered his 16th season with the Los Angeles Kings this fall.
Taylor has reached numerous milestones in his professional career. He entered the 1992-93 campaign ranked among the NHL's all time leading scores with 421 goals and 626 assists for 1,047 points in over 1,030 games. Taylor has earned NHL all-star honors four times (1980, 1981, 1982, 1986). After 14 seasons with the Kings, Taylor in 1991, received the Bill Masterton Memorial Trophy for perseverance, sportsmanship and dedication to hockey. He also received the King Clancy Memorial Trophy for his leadership on and off the ice as well as for his contributions to his community. Taylor is the first player in the NHL history to win the two prestigious awards in the same season.
The Clarkson University Athletic Hall of Fame was founded to honor and perpetuate the memory of those individuals who, either through participation, support or interest have made outstanding contributions to Clarkson athletics, and who have helped to bring recognition, honor and distinction to the University. It is with great pride that Clarkson inducts Dave Taylor into the Athletic Hall of Fame.
