CLARKSON
ATHLETICS HALL of FAME
ED FAY '64
Inaugural Class of 1992 Inductee
During the early 1960's, the sport of wrestling enjoyed tremendous prosperity at Clarkson and was very popular with the student body. Much of the Golden Knights' success can be attributed to the dominance displayed on the mat by Ed Fay, a native of Massena, New York. During his three-year career from 1961-64, Fay posted a 27-1 dual meet record and set several school marks wrestling at 137-pound, 147-pound, and 157-pound weight classes.
As a sophomore in 1961-62, Fay paced the Golden Knights to their best season ever at 10-0 with an undefeated year as he set a record for most team points in a season with 43.Fay again was Clarkson's top performer during the 1962-63 campaign as the Knights completed the season with an 8-2 record. Fay, who suffered his only collegiate loss during that winter after moving up a weight class to balance the line-up, racked up a record seven pins.
The collegiate career of one of Clarkson's finest wrestlers ever came to a triumphant close during the 1963-64 season when Fay, along with his younger brother Dan '66, led the Green and Gold to their second undefeated campaign in three years with a 9-0 record. Fay, an industrial distribution major, established himself as a superior wrestler by setting Clarkson records for most career team points, with 119, and most career falls, with 17.
The Clarkson University Athletic Hall of Fame was founded to honor and perpetuate the memory of those individuals who, either through participation, support or interest have made outstanding contributions to Clarkson athletics, and who have helped to bring recognition, honor and distinction to the University. It is with great pride that Clarkson inducts Ed Fay into the Athletic Hall of Fame.
