CLARKSON
ATHLETICS HALL of FAME
BILL FIESINGER '37
Class of 1995 Inductee
A three-sport star for Clarkson, Bill Fiesinger enjoyed an outstanding collegiate career for the Green and Gold in the mid-1930s, participating in three of the premier sports at the college.
An all-around athlete, Fiesinger made his biggest impact as a triple-threat back, place kicker and punter on Clarkson's football teams when head coach Pete Dwyer's squads routinely played in front of thousands of fans in the fall.
During the Syracuse native's three years on the varsity, the Dwyerites complied an 11-7-3 record on the gridiron and won the Small College Conference Championship in 1934. Another notable fact was that Clarkson never lost a game to arch-rival St. Lawrence with Fiesinger on the team.
In the winter months, Fiesinger was a center for the Tech basketball teams, earning three varsity letters on teams coached by Pete Dwyer and Hank Hodge. The 1934-35 squad won the conference championship and enjoyed perhaps the best season ever at the College with a 15-4 record.
During the North Country springs, Fiesinger starred as a smooth-hitting outfielder on Hank Hodge's powerhouse squads, consistently batting above .300. As a sophomore, he played left field next to "Pinky" Ryan, and inaugural Clarkson Athletic Hall of Fame inductee, and then took over center field as a junior and senior.
In 1937, Fiesinger turned down an offer to play professional football with the Cleveland Rams, and started his career as an engineer at Corning Glass. Fiesinger, who later went on to serve as Clarkson's Alumni Director, also acted as the college's athletic director from 1974 until his retirement in 1979 and played a major role in keeping the Golden Knights very competitive in intercollegiate competition.
The Clarkson University Athletic Hall of Fame was founded in 1992 to honor and perpetuate the memory of those individuals who, either through participation, support or interest has made outstanding contributions to Clarkson athletics. And who have helped to bring recognition, honor and distinction to the University. It is with great pride that Clarkson inducts Bill Fiesinger into the Athletic Hall of Fame.
