JUNIOR YEAR (1999-00)—Clarkson’s MVP and leading scorer with 30 points, including a team-high 19 goals … Named a second-team ECAC All-Star … A top specialty teams player with five power-play tallies and two shorthanded markers … Also netted game-winning goals in 2-1 victory at Northern Michigan (10/23) and in 5-2 triumph over Minnesota Mankato (1/7) … Recorded three, two-goal outings, scoring twice in 3-3 at Princeton (11/6), in 5-2 win over Minnesota Mankato and in 5-3 loss at Dartmouth (1/30) … Tallied eighth career shorthanded goal in 6-5 victory at brown (2/18).
SOPHOMORE YEAR (1998-99)- Second-Team Titan All-America…First-Team ECAC All-Star…ECAC All-Tournament selection…Named Clarkson’s MVP…The Knights’ leading scorer and among the top forwards in the country…Tallied 42 points on 22 goals and 20 assists through 36 games…Led the nation in shorthanded goals with a school-record six…Finished the season with a 14-game point streak with 11 goals and 10 assists since February 2…Complete two-way forward, who led Clarkson in plus/minus at +26…Tallied one assist in the NCAA East Regional contest against Maine (3/27) and earned praise from Black Bear head coach Shawn Walsh who remarked, “Erik Cole is as good as any player we’ve
played all year.”…Recorded his first career three-goal game, a natural hat trick in the final 3:30 of play to lift Clarkson to a 4-2 victory at Vermont (1/15), which started the Knights on a 13-game winning run…Tallied two shorthanded goals in ECAC Regular Season title-clinching 4-1 win at Cornell (3/6)…Scored one goal in the 3-2 ECAC Championship game win over SLU (3/20)…Scored a goal and an assist in the ECAC Quarterfinal sweep of Brown (3/12-13)…Had four game-winning goals and one power play marker…Was named ECAC Player of the Week (1/18)…Named to ECAC weekly Honor Roll four times.
FRESHMAN YEAR (1997-98)- One of the top freshman in the country earning ECAC co-Rookie of the Year honors…Third on the Knights’ in scoring with 31 points on 11 goals and 20 assists through 34 games…Finished as the ECAC’s leading freshman scorer in league play with 25 points (10-15)…ECAC All-Star – Honorable Mention…Really picked up his play in 1998 with 23 points (9-14) during the New Year…Tallied three points (1-2) in ECAC playoffs…Set-up Clarkson’s only goal in 3-1 loss to Colorado College in NCAA Tournament…Scored four points (2-2) in 6-1 win over Colgate (3/6) and assisted on winning foal in overtime vs Cornell (3/7) to earn ECAC Rookie of the Week honors for the fourth time of the season…Tallied three assists in 6-3 win over Yale (2/20)…Scored two power play
goals…Netted the lone goal with 2:00 left in 1-0 win at St. Lawrence (1/24)…Also tallied the winning goal inn 5-4 victory at Vermont (1/17)…Scored twice, including his first first collegiate goal, in 11-0 win over Rensselaer (11/22)…Missed out on participating for the U.S. National Junior Team at the IIHF World Junior Championships after suffering an ankle injury during try-outs in Mid-December…Clarkson’s co-Rookie of the Year.
BEFORE CLARKSON-Was one of the top players in the United States Hockey League (USHL) in 1996-97 while playing for the Des Moines Buccaneers…Scored 30 goals and 34 assists and recorded 185 penalty minutes through 48 games…Was the 1997 USHL Rookie of the Year runner-up…Played two years at Oswego High School (1994-96).
