3568Stephanie Sealer was a standout in athletic competition and in classroom achievement at Clarkson during the early 1990s. The Duluth, GA native earned numerous accolades playing for the Golden Knights’ women’s basketball and tennis teams, was awarded Clarkson Presidential Scholar honors for five semesters, was the recipient of Clarkson’s Ilse J. Shaw Liberal Studies Award, and was selected three times as an Academic All-American.

The preeminent women’s tennis player ever at Clarkson, Sealer excelled for the Knights during the fall season and posted a 26-3 career dual-meet record in #1-singles competition, and also was strong in doubles play. She was the Knights’ MVP in each of her four seasons and served as team captain in her sophomore, junior, and senior years.





After advancing to the semifinal round in the league tournament as a sophomore and junior, Sealer reached the finals of the 1994 Empire Athletic Association (EAA) Tournament Championship before losing in a close match, suffering the only defeat of her senior campaign.

Sealer also enjoyed great success on the basketball court as a 5’4" point guard,3670 leading Clarkson in scoring in each of her four seasons. Starting every game during her career, she helped lead head coach Jeanne Johnston’s squads to 53 victories and two postseason appearances during her four-year tenure wearing the Green and Gold.

As a freshman in 1991-92, Sealer stepped right in and helped guide the Knights to a 16-9 overall record and a berth in the ECAC Upstate NY Tournament. An AWSF Freshman All-American and EAA Rookie of the Year, she paced the Green and Gold’s offense scoring a team-high 11.9 points per game. Sealer enjoyed a strong showing in her inaugural EAA contest by recording a season-high 28 points in a 76-46 victory over rival St. Lawrence University.

Sealer followed her standout rookie campaign by averaging 14.6 ppg as a sophomore and earning EAA first-team honors. As a junior, she was once again named to the conference’s all-star team after averaging 12.7 points, 2.4 assists and 2.6 rebounds per game. In 1993-94, Sealer led the nation in free-throw shooting, hitting 90.9% (60-66) of her foul shots.

3735As a captain and the lone senior on the 1994-95 team, Sealer enjoyed her greatest success and led Clarkson to a 14-11 record and a playoff showing in the highly prestigious New York State Tournament. She scored 15.6 points, pulled down 3.4 rebounds and dished out 2.9 assists per game.

Sealer closed out her collegiate career as Clarkson’s second all-time leading scorer with 1,342 points in 98 games. She now ranks second in free throws made (263), third in field goals made (538), fifth in career assists (260) and eighth in all-time steals (146).

A Liberal Studies and Accounting major who graduated from Clarkson with Great Distinction, Sealer was named a Co-SIDA GTE National Academic All-American in both women’s tennis and women’s basketball, and was a NYSWCAA Female Athlete of the Year as a senior in 1995.
