5704Russ Hall was an outstanding two-sport student-athlete for the Green and Gold during the late 1960s, excelling in basketball and baseball. He ranks among Clarkson’s most prolific scorers on the basketball court, and was a smooth-fielding, hard-hitting shortstop for the Golden Knights’ baseball team.

Averaging over 22 points a game on the hard court, Hall was one of the top scorers in the Independent College Athletic Conference (ICAC) and Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) during a three-season span. From 1966 through 1969, the talented guard amassed 1,341 points in 60 games. Hall led the Knights in scoring in each of his three seasons and was named a First-Team ECAC All-Star in 1969 along with gaining First-Team accolades in the ICAC as a junior (1967-68) and senior (1968-69).

The Syracuse native is just one of six Clarkson players ever to have   scored over 1,300 points during his collegiate career. Hall made his presence 5705know on the basketball court right from his first varsity season when he set the school record for most points by a sophomore, putting up 496 points during the 1966-67 campaign, a Clarkson record that still stands today. For his career, Hall made more than 46% of his field goal attempts and more than 76% of his free throws.

During the spring, Hall was the Knights’ starting shortstop in each of his three seasons of eligibility. He served as team captain and posted a career .320 batting average. Hall was also named an ICAC All-Star.

Hall was Most Valuable Player of the Basketball and Baseball teams and was named Clarkson’s Outstanding Senior Athlete in 1969. After graduation, Reverend Doctor Russell C. Hall turned down many offers to play professional ball to join the ministry.
