Willie Mitchell was not the only former Clarkson Hockey standout to raise a championship trophy this spring. Matt Beca, the Golden Knights’ last 100-point scorer, enjoyed a stellar 2011-12 campaign in the East Coast Hockey League and help lead the Florida Everblades to the 2012 ECHL Championship title. Beca and his Everblades teammates lifted the Kelly Cup on May 23 after defeating the Las Vegas Wranglers in Game Five of the ECHL Finals at Germain Arena in Estero, FL. Beca had two assists, including on the overtime game-winner, in the 3-2 clincher, which gave Florida its first championship in the team’s 14-year history. Playing in all 18 games of the playoffs, he scored five goals and nine assists. Beca was the Everblades’ leading scorer during the regular season, recording 60 points on 21 goals and 39 assists through 62 games. Beca starred for the Golden Knights from 2006-10, posting 123 points (51-72) in 149 games.
