Tony Maci

In his seven years as an assistant coach for the Golden Knights, Tony Maci has played a key role in solidifying Clarkson University as one of the elite programs in women’s hockey.

Clarkson won National Championships in his first two years (2017, 2018) on the Green and Gold staff and made another Frozen Four appearance in 2019.

The Knights have complied 182 victories, earned a pair of ECAC Hockey regular-season titles, won the program’s first three conference championship tournament trophies and have gone 7-3 in NCAA Tournament play the past 8 seasons. Clarkson advanced to its eighth straight conference championship tournament in 2019-20 and was set for another NCAA Tournament run before the COVID 19 pandemic forced an abrupt end to the college hockey season in last March.

Maci’s start as a coach at the Division I level was highly successful as he played a significant role in guiding Princeton to the most wins in program history at the time with a 22-9-2 overall record and a berth in the NCAA Tournament in 2015-16.

As an assistant coach at Adrian College, Maci was involved in nearly every aspect of the Bulldogs’ program. Adrian posted the best win percentage in school history in 2014-15 at 84.6 percent, with its second 20+ win season in three seasons.

He has also served as a coach for USA Hockey.

A native of Grosse Ile, Mich., Maci played his junior hockey with the Springfield Jr. Blues (NAHL). Maci is a 2005graduate of St. Lawrence University with a degree in English. A five-year member of the men’s hockey program, Maci earned a medicalredshirt as a freshman before going on to play in 83 games. He registered 17 points and 68 penalty minutes as a defender. He is currently pursuing his master’s degree in education from St. Lawrence.

Maci also played professionally in the SPHL for Huntsville and Jacksonville during the 2005-06 season.

"We couldn't be more excited to welcome Tony to Clarkson," stated Desrosiers on Maci's hire in 2016. "I have known Tony for about 15 years now and you won't meet a more down to earth and genuine guy. He's the type of person and coach that is going to work hard every day to help our players grow and get better individually and as a team. Tony has been an integral part of some successful teams at Princeton and Adrian so I look forward to him bringing in some new ideas and excitement. We can't wait to get him on campus to start preparing for next season."
