CLARKSON RALLIES FOR TIE vs. UVM

Potsdam, NY – Sophomore Kate Allgood (Toronto, ONT) scored her first collegiate goal at 13:14 of the third period to lift the Clarkson University Women’s Hockey team to a 1-1 overtime tie against the University of Vermont in the Golden Knights’ official home opener before 575 fans at Cheel Arena on Saturday afternoon.

Allgood picked up a loose puck at the side of the net and lifted in the tying goal while Clarkson was skating on its seventh power play of the game. Freshmen Ashley Shaidle (Hudson, OH) and Lauren Lubrano (Ridgefield, CT) assisted on the score, which evened the Knights ‘ record at 1-1-1.
 
Clarkson controlled play in the remainder of the third and the entire five-minute sudden death overtime stanza, but could not get the go ahead goal. The Knights outshot Vermont 39-20, including a 5-0 advantage in overtime. Freshman Kira McDonald (Pickering, ONT) posted 19 saves for Clarkson, while Kami Cote finished with 38 saves for the Catamounts, who snapped a four-game season-opening losing streak

After a scoreless first period, Vermont (0-4-1) took the early lead as Lindsey Tilbury tallied her second goal of the season with 13 seconds remaining in the second period.
 
The Knights and Catamounts will close out their weekend series on Sunday at 12 noon.
 
Prior to Saturday's game, Clarkson held a a brief puck dropping ceremony to celebrate their inaugural season as a Division I Independent. Former Clarkson coach Ron Frazer, who started the women's initial program in the mid 1970s, former Clarkson players, Pam Morin '76, Kelly Priestley '81 and Cathy Champion-Demers '84, Clarkson President Tony Collins, George A. Davis, Clarkson Athletic Director Sean T. Frazier and men's and women's head hockey coaches George Roll and Rick Seeley were present at center ice of the dropping of the puck.
