Elmira, NY - Freshman Ashley Shaidle (Hudson, OH) broke a 1-1 tie with 29 seconds left in the third period with her team-high third goal of the year to lead the Clarkson University Women’s Hockey team to a 2-1 victory over defending NCAA Division III Champion Elmira College Friday night.
Clarkson (3-1-1) took an early first period lead on freshman Jill Nolan’s (Labrador, NF) first collegiate goal at 7:06. Nolan also assisted on the game winner. The Soaring Eagles came back to tie with 1:40 remaining in the opening stanza.
The Golden Knights outshot Elmira (0-3) 32-20. Freshman Kira McDonald (Pickering, ONT) made 19 saves, including 10 in the third period, as Clarkson handed Elmira its first ever loss at the Murray Center.
The Knights and Soaring Eagles play again on Saturday afternoon in Elmira, beginning at 2:00 p.m.
