KNIGHTS GAIN SWEEP at ELMIRA

The Knights are riding a five-game unbeaten streak
The Clarkson University Women’s Hockey team extended its unbeaten streak to five straight games (4-0-1) with an impressive weekend effort on the road. On Friday, the Golden Knights handed defending NCAA III Champion Elmira College its first ever loss on its home ice by earning a thrilling 2-1 victory. The Green and Gold followed on Saturday with a dominating performance, shutting out the Soaring Eagles 3-0. At 4-1-1, head coach Rick Seeley’s team continues its current seven-game road trip next weekend playing at Cornell and Colgate on Saturday and Sunday.
 
In Saturday’s victory, freshman Kira McDonald (Pickering, ONT) posted 22 saves to record the Knights’ second shutout in their inaugural season as a Division I Independent. Freshman Ashley Shaidle (Hudson, OH) followed up her game-winning heroics on Friday with the only goal Clarkson would need on Saturday when she tallied her team-high fourth goal of the season, a short-handed marker at 7:17 of the second period. Rookie right wing Jill Nolan (Labrador, NF), who also scored in Friday’s win, contributed two goals. Nolan scored at the 14-minute mark of the second frame and added her third goal of the year at 12:14 of the third.

Shaidle lifted Clarkson to Friday’s win, scoring the deciding goal with just 29 seconds left in regulation.
 
Clarkson took an early first period lead on Nolan’s first collegiate goal at 7:06. Nolan also assisted on the game winner. The Soaring Eagles came back to tie with 1:40 remaining in the opening stanza.
 
The Golden Knights outshot Elmira (0-3) 32-20. McDonald made 19 saves, including 10 in the third period, as Clarkson handed Elmira its first ever loss at the Murray Center.
