Potsdam, NY – Normally a disciplined team, the Clarkson University Women's Hockey team saw its winless streak extended to six games as Cornell University took advantage of eight Golden Knights’ penalties to score three power-play goals in a 5-2 win over Clarkson Saturday afternoon at Cheel Arena.

Clarkson falls to 5-6-2 overall while Cornell improves to 2-4-1 with the win.

Early in the first period, the Golden Knights appeared to have a handle on the game as they out shot Cornell 9-5 and enjoyed a 2-0 lead. Clarkson opened the scoring when freshman defenseman Christine Bailkowski (Aurora, ONT) scored her first career collegiate goal, a power-play tally, when she knocked in a rebound at the 10:16 mark of the first period. The goal was Clarkson’s first power-play marker in three games as the Golden Knights were held scoreless in their last nine man-advantage chances before Bailkowski broke through. Sophomore Kate Allgood (Toronto, ONT) picked up her fourth assist of the season and Lauren Lubrano (Ridgfield, CT) tallied her third assist of the season on Bailkowski’s goal.

Clarkson showed it was capable of scoring when down a player as well when Lindsay Williams (Mississauga, ONT) scored an unassisted short-handed goal on a wrist shot above the right shoulder of Cornell goaltender Flora Vineberg (Toronto, ONT) at the 16:25 mark of the first period. Williams’ third goal of the season was just the second short-handed tally of the season for Clarkson.

The Golden Knights held their two-goal advantage midway into the second period when the Big Red scored a power-play goal at the 8:14 mark. Freshman Halina Kristalyn (Bloomfield, ONT) scored her fourth goal of the season as Cornell finally got a shot past Kira McDonald (Pickering, ONT). Anita Khar (Stamford, CT)) and Pearle Nerenberg (Lachute, QUE) each gained assists on the goal. The momentum continued in Cornell’s favor as the Big Red scored another goal just two minutes later when Nerenberg stuffed in a shot in front to tie the score with her third goal of the season. Kristalyn and Allison Simpson (Yellowknife, NW Territory) both were awarded assists.

The Big Red completed their strong second period with a second power-play goal when Khar scored her second goal of the season with just four seconds remaining in the frame. Nerenberg and Kristalyn each picked up their second assists of the game on the goal.

Cornell continued its vigorous play in the third period, scoring less than three minutes into the period when Kristalyn tallied her second goal of the game. Khar and Nerenberg once again picked up assists on the goal. Kahr added her second goal of the game, a power-play tally at 17:21, to end the scoring. Cornell’s top line totaled 14 of the team’s 15 points in the game.

The Golden Knights complete a four-game home stand next weekend when they host Colby College at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday and Bowdoin College at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday.
