WILLIAMS SCORES LATE TO PROPEL KNIGHTS TO WIN

Ithaca, NY - Freshman Lindsay Williams (Mississauga, Ontario) scored a power-play goal with less than five minutes remaining in the third period to help lift the Clarkson University Women's Hockey team to its fourth straight victory with a 2-1 win over Cornell Saturday afternoon at Lynah Rink.

The Golden Knights, who now own a six-game unbeaten streak and are 5-1-1 on the season, play Colgate on Sunday afternoon, facing the Raiders at 2:00 p.m. at Starr Rink in Hamilton, NY.

After a scoreless first period, Christina Valesente (Ithaca, NY) enjoyed her home coming by scoring her first collegiate goal at the 7:15 mark of the second period. Kim Coates (Harrison Hot Springs, BC) assisted on the opening tally of the game for the Golden Knights. Cornell (0-2-0) rallied back at the 11:53 mark to tie the game 1-1 when Vicki Hodgkinson accepted a pass from Andrea Skinner.

Williams scored the game-winner at the 15:06 mark in the third period on a pass from Cortney Bills (Penfield, NY). Jill Nolan (Labrador, NF) also was awarded an assist on the power-play goal.

Stephanie Hansen (Calgary, Alberta) made the most of her first start in net this season for Clarkson, making 41 saves on 42 shots to pick up the victory. Flora Vineberg made 21 saves for Cornell. The Golden Knights were outshot in each period, but went 1-for-5 on the power play, while holding the Big Red to an 0-for-3 performance with the man-advantage.
