HAMILTON, N.Y. - The Clarkson University Women’s Hockey team suffered defeat for the first time since its season opener, falling 4-2 to Colgate University at Starr Rink on Sunday afternoon. The Golden Knights, who saw their six-game unbeaten streak (5-0-1) come to an end, stand at 5-2-1.
Colgate (7-2-1) came out firing in the first period, scoring the first three goals goal of the game. Clarkson battled back with back-to-back goals to wrap up the first period. Jill Nolan (Labrador, NF) scored her fourth of the season from assistant captain Lindsay Williams (Mississauga, ONT), and Ashley Shaidle (Hudson, OH) made it 3-2 with her team-high fifth goal of the year at 16:53 with Kate Allgood (Toronto, ONT) and Melissa Marshall (Oak Lawn, IL) assisting.
The Raiders dominated the second and third periods, out shooting Clarkson 25-3. Stephanie Hansen (Calgary, ALB), who replaced Kira McDonald (Pickering, ONT) in net for Clarkson after the Raiders scored three goals, stopped 26 of the last 27 Raiders shots.
Colgate added an insurance goal at 8:06 of the third period. Colgate out shot Clarkson 40-12, and went 1-4 on the power play. The Raiders killed the only power-play chance for the Golden Knights in the contest.
Clarkson closes out a seven-game road trip with games on three consecutive days this coming weekend. The Knights play at Northeastern on Friday, at Quinnipiac on Saturday and at Rensselaer on Sunday afternoon.
