FRESHMEN LEAD KNIGHTS TO 4-0 WIN OVER UNION

Potsdam, NY - Following up an outstanding debut in the ECACHL on Saturday, the Clarkson University Women's Hockey team posted their first shutout of the season with a 4-0 blanking of Union in front of 159 fans at Cheel Arena on Sunday afternoon.

The Golden Knights moved to 2-0 while Union dropped to 0-2. Clarkson hosts Wayne State next Friday and Saturday at Cheel Arena.

Freshmen led the way for the Golden Knights on Sunday with three of the four Clarkson goals being scored by rookies. Jessica Cloutier (Parker, CO) opend the scoring at the 2:45 mark in the second period when she posted her first collegiate goal on the power play. Classmate Brooke Beazer (Kingston, ONT) was awarded the assist. Sophomore Kim Coates (Harrison Hot Springs, BC) put the Knights up 2-0 just five minutes later when she scored an even-strength goal for Clarkson at 7:22. Cloutier picked up her second assist of the season on the goal. Clarkson added another power-play goal at 14:38 with Cloutier scoring again. Beazer and freshman Meghan Park (Petrolia, ONT) each gained assists on the Knights' final goal of the second stanza.

Beazer recorded her third point of the afternoon with her first goal of the season at 4:33 of the third period.  Sophomore Ashley Shaidle (Hudson, OH) assisted on the goal.

Sophomore goaltender Stephanie Hansen (Calgary, ALB) earned her second career shutout by making 23 saves for Clarkson, including 13 in the scoreless first period. Lauren Carlson stopped 37 shots in the loss for the Dutchmen.

The Golden Knights enjoyed a 45-6 shot advantage on Saturday, but owned only a 41-23 edge on Sunday afternoon. Clarkson took advantage of eight penalties by Union, scoring on two occasions, while Union went 0-for-4 with the Knights down a player.
