KNIGHTS DOMINATE PIONEERS FOR SECOND STRAIGHT DAY

February 8, 2004

Potsdam, NY – Sophomore captain Kate Allgood (Toronto, ONT) recorded her second career hat track as the Clarkson University Women’s Hockey team shut out Sacred Heart for the second consecutive day with a 11-0 drubbing of the Pioneers Sunday afternoon at Cheel Arena.

Clarkson improved to 15-10-3 on the season while the Pioneers fell to 6-10.

The Golden Knights wasted little time in getting on the scoreboard as Allgood scored her 14th goal of the season when she put home a rebound at the 2:16 mark of the first period. Freshman Ashley Shaidle (Hudson, OH) and classmate Emma Madigan (Mississauga, ONT) each picked up assists on the goal.

Clarkson kept the pressure on and freshman Lindsay Williams (Mississauga, ONT) batted in her own missed shot two minutes later at the 4:30 mark to give the Knights a 2-0 lead, her ninth goal of the season. Clarkson dominated the first period to a greater degree than any of the three periods on Saturday evening against the Pioneers, out shooting Sacred Heart 25-1 in the opening frame. The Pioneers didn’t record a shot on goal until there was three seconds remaining in the period.

In the second period, Clarkson opened the period with a goal from Shaidle, her team-high 15th of the season, at the 2:51 mark when she scored on a backhand in the slot over the Sacred Heart goaltender Stephanie Boulay’s left shoulder. Christina Valesente (Ithaca, NY) picked up her second assist of the year. The Golden Knights scored a power-play goal at the 10:27 mark on a pretty passing play from the blue line, to the left circle over to Shaidle in the right circle for her 16th of the season. Lauren Lubrano (Ridgefield, CT) and Allgood each were awarded assists on the goal. Kristi Shaw (Belleville, ONT) followed with her fourth goal of the season at the 14:02 mark when she skated around the net and sent a shot past the left blocker of Boulay as she was tripped up in front. The Knights again controlled the play, out shooting the Pioneers 21-2 in the second period.

The third period saw the Golden Knights add six more goals, three coming in a span of just 2:10 and three more coming in a span of 1:38. Allgood scored at the 7:52 mark, assisted by Shaidle. Freshman Courtney Bills (Penfield, NY) scored her first goal of the game at the 8:41 and Allgood picked up her hat trick at the 10:02 in the final period. Allgood scored her fourth goal and Shaidle picked up her fourth assist of the game on a score at the 15:35 mark while Shaw (16:19) and Williams (17:13) added goals in the waning minutes.

Jessica Finley (Arvada, CO) picked up her first career shutout by making five saves, while Boulay and Jennifer Barris combined for 59 saves. Clarkson out shot the Pioneers 24-2 in the final period and 70-5 overall.
