KNIGHTS COME UP SHORT AGAINST 3RD-RANKED DARTMOUTH

February 12, 2005

Potsdam, NY – Barely able to put together two lines, a short-handed Dartmouth College team, ranked #3 in the USCHO poll, defeated the Clarkson University Women's Hockey team 4-2 in an ECACHL game Saturday afternoon at Cheel Arena.

The Golden Knights fell to 10-13-6 overall and 5-10-1 in the ECACHL while the Big Green got back on the winning track after a Friday night loss, improving to 21-3 and 14-2.

After a first period which saw the Golden Knights control play with an 11-6 shot advantage, the turning point in the game came in the second period when the Big Green scored two times in under three minutes. Junior right wing Tiffany Hagge scored a power-play goal 32 seconds in to the man-advantage when she flipped a shot past the stick side of Clarkson goalie Kira McDonald (Pickering, ONT) at 10:57. Hagge scored again just 2:34 later, her 22nd goal of the season, on a wrist shot from the right circle that went over McDonald’s glove. The Big Green took a 3-1 advantage into the final period and would never relinquish the lead.

In the first period, Dartmouth’s Caroline Ethier started the scoring when she intercepted a clearing pass at the 2:43 mark and skated in close, finishing the play by flipping the puck past the goaltender’s glove side. It was her 10th tally of the season. The Golden Knights wasted little time knotting the game at 1-1 when Amanda Dittmer’s (Chatham, ONT) shot was blasted wide of the goal and came off the boards to the opposite side where freshman Brooke Beazer (Kingston, ONT) was waiting to push it over the goal line for her eighth goal of the season. Dittmer and Jill Nolan (Labrador, NF) assisted.

Sophomore Jill Nolan scored her team-high 11th goal of the season to pull the Knights within one at the 8:07 mark of the third period when she picked up a power-play goal. After a flurry of shots in close, the puck found its way out to Nolan at the edge of the left circle where she promptly wristed it into the back of the net. Lindsay Williams (Mississauga, ONT) and Emma Madigan (Mississauga, ONT) both picked up assists.

Dartmouth used its own power-play marker to regain its two-goal advantage five minutes later. Krista Dornfried, scoring her fifth goal of the season, flipped a shot into the top of the net at the 13:35 mark after a tripping penalty to give the Big Green a 4-2 lead. Kristi Anderson earned her second assist of the game and 18th of the season for Dartmouth.

McDonald made 17 saves for Clarkson as her record this season fell to 7-11-3. Lane improved to 11-2 on the season with her 29 stops. The Golden Knights owned a 31-21 shot advantage and out shot the Big Green in each period.
