Burlington, VT - Freshman Micheleen Devine (Medicine Hat, Alberta) scored her first career goal, which turned out to be the game-winner, as the Clarkson University Women's Hockey team defeated the University of Vermont 2-0 Saturday afternoon.

The Golden Knights have begun the season with a 2-0 record while the Catamounts dropped to 0-2-1 on the season. Clarkson begins play at Cheel Arena next weekend when they host Mercyhurst.

Though Clarkson dominated play in the opening period with a 13-7 shot advantage, the Golden Knights didn't score until the second period when Devine came through with an unassisted marker at 10:46. Junior Ashley Shaidle (Hudson, OH) picked up an insurance goal at 17:58 of the second period with sophomore Brooke Beazer (Kingston, Ontario) and freshman Marie-jo Gaudet (Sherbrooke, Quebec) assisting.

Junior goaltender Kira Hurley (Pickering, Ontario) made 17 saves for her first shutout of the season and her eighth career whitewash.  Shivaun Siegl made 25 saves for the Catamounts. Clarkson closed the game with a 27-17 shot advantage. Neither team could muster much offense on the power play as the Golden Knights went 0-for-7 with a man-advantage and Vermont was 0-for-8.
