Facing its toughest road trip of the season, the Clarkson University Women’s Hockey team responded with an outstanding effort to knock off two of the Top-10 ranked teams in the country over the weekend. The Golden Knights completed their noteworthy sweep on Sunday with a 1-0 shutout of eighth-ranked Dartmouth College in Hanover, NH. On Saturday, the Green and Gold shocked 5th-rated Harvard 4-3 in Cambridge, MA.
The Golden Knights have now defeated three consecutive Top-10 ranked teams to extend their current unbeaten streak to eight straight games (7-0-1), including six wins in a row. Clarkson owns a 9-2-1 overall record and stands a top the ECAC Hockey League with a perfect 4-0-0 league mark.
Freshman defenseman Kimberly McKenney (Smiths Falls, ONT) made her first collegiate goal a very memorable one as she connected off an assist from classmate Marie-Jo Gaudet (Sherbrooke, QUE) at 13:29 of the first period for the game’s lone goal in Sunday’s contest against the Big Green at Thompson Arena. That was all the scoring the Knights would need as junior Kira Hurley (Pickering, ONT), with a solid team defensive effort in front of her, posted her fifth shutout of the season and 12th career whitewash behind 16 saves.
Clarkson out shot Dartmouth, which has participated in the past three NCAA Frozen Fours, 21-16 and shut down all five of the Big Green’s power-play opportunities.
The Knights, who are 7-0-1 on the road, will look to continue their winning ways when they play at Princeton and Quinnipiac this coming Friday and Saturday.
