CLARKSON SKATES BY QUINNIPIAC 5-1

November 19, 2005

Freshman Micheleen Devine (Medicine Hat, ALB) scored two goals to highlight a dominating effort in the Clarkson University Women’s Hockey team’s 5-1 victory at Quinnipiac University on Saturday afternoon.

The Golden Knights, who entered the weekend ranked 9th in the country, broke open a scoreless first period tie with a four-goal second period outburst. Junior Christina Valesente (Ithaca, NY) opened the scoring with her second goal of the season at 12:56 of the middle stanza. Sophomore Jessica Cloutier (Parker, CO) followed with her fourth of the year 49 seconds later. Junior Melissa Marshall (Oak Lawn, IL) made it 3-0 at 15:34 with her fourth tally of the season. Devine closed out the period with her first goal of the contest at 16:26.

Quinnipiac, which is playing its first season in the ECACHL, got on the scoreboard at 5:42 of the third period, but 19 seconds later Devine answered back with her team-high 8th goal of the year to put to rest any hopes of a Bobcat comeback.

Sophomore Brooke Beazer (Kingston, ONT) set up three goals, while junior captain Lindsay Williams (Mississauga, ONT) and sophomore Katie Morrison (Ridgefield, CT) chipped in two assists each. Junior assistant captain Emma Madigan (Mississauga, ONT) also recorded an assist.

The Knights out shot Quinnipiac 36-10. Junior Kira Hurley (Pickering, ONT) posted nine saves. Clarkson was 0-of-6 on the power play while the Bobcats were 0-of-2 with the man advantage.

Clarkson, which is off until it plays at North Country rival St. Lawrence University on November 30, owns a 10-3-1 overall record and stands in first place in the ECACHL with a 5-1 league mark.
