Lake Placid, NY – Freshman Marie Jo-Gaudet (Sherbrooke, QUE) scored an unassisted goal at the 2:20 mark in overtime to lift the Clarkson University Women’s Hockey team to a 2-1 win on Saturday and a weekend sweep of Boston College at Lake Placid’s Olympic Arena.

The Golden Knights improved to 13-6-1 on the season while Boston College dropped to 6-6-4 overall. Clarkson returns to action with a non-league game against Robert Morris on Saturday, January 7th.

The opening period saw the Golden Knights dominate play, but without any goal-scoring success. Clarkson held the Eagles without a shot on goal for the first 15:20 of the period while putting five shots on the Boston College net. At the end of the 20-minute frame, neither team had produced much offensively with Clarkson holding a slim 5-2 advantage in shots.

Boston College’s offense came alive in the first few minutes of the second period, but Clarkson again assumed control with a 10-6 edge in shots on goal. Despite this advantage, the Eagles were able to get on the scoreboard first as Becky Zavisza scored her team-high 11th goal at the 10:27 mark of the second period. Freshman Brie Baskin, who was awarded an assist on the goal, took a shot from close to the blue line that was redirected by Zavizsa past Clarkson goaltender Kira Hurley (Pickering, ONT). Freshman defenseman Stephanie Olchowski also picked up an assist. Both first-year players earned their initial collegiate points on the goal for Boston College.

The Golden Knights wasted little time tying the game back up when they were awarded a power play late in the second period. After an Eagles’ defender slid in an attempt to get the puck out of the zone, the Golden Knights were in a 4-on-3 position and quickly moved the puck behind the end line where it was delivered to Brooke Beazer (Kingston, ONT), who scored the equalizer at 15:39 just 24 seconds into the power play. The goal was Beazer’s fifth of the year and second in as many days for the Golden Knights. Jessica Cloutier (Parker, CO) and Christine Bailkowski (Aurora, ONT) each earned assists on the play, with Cloutier delivering the pass from the end line.

The third period was nearly devoid of any true scoring opportunities until the final seconds when Amanda Dittmer (Chatham, ONT) came down on a 2-on-1 despite the Knights being down a player after a late penalty.

When Gaudet scored her fifth goal of the season on a wrap around shot in the overtime period, the Golden Knights had been held without a shot in the first half of the extra period.

Hurley finished with 13 saves for the Golden Knights, while Alison Quandt recorded 20 stops for the Eagles. Clarkson finished 1-for-6 on the power play while Boston College closed the game 0-for-3 with the extra player.
