KNIGHTS CLOSE REGULAR SEASON WITH LOSS AT COLGATE

February 26, 2005

Hamilton, NY - Despite a furious third period that saw the Clarkson University Women's Hockey team out shoot their opponent 11-4, the Golden Knights closed out the regular season with a 2-1 loss to ECACHL foe Colgate Saturday afternoon.

Clarkson ends the regular season with a 13-15-6 overall mark and a 7-12-1 record in the ECACHL, finishing the season in 8th place in the conference standings. The Golden Knights will travel to Boston, MA to face Harvard in a best of three games set in the opening round of the ECACHL playoffs. Colgate improved to 16-13-4 and 9-7-4 in conference play.

On the opposite end of the spectrum from last night's game against Cornell, the Golden Knights fell behind by two goals in the opening period and could not recover from the deficit despite out shooting the Red Raiders. Kara Leene scored a power-play goal at the 9:40 mark of the first pperiod and Maura Kehoe added another goal less than seven minutes later to give Colgate a 2-0 advantage after 20 minutes.

Sophomore Christine Bailkowski (Aurora, ONT) cut the Colgate advantage in half with a power-play marker late in the second period. With just one second remaining in the power play, Bailkowski tallied her ninth goal of the season, with assists going to classmate Ashley Shaidle (Hudson, OH) and freshman Jessica Cloutier (Parker, CO).

The Golden Knights out shot Colgate 11-4 in the final 20 minutes, but could not score the tying goal. Clarkson finished with a 23-17 advantage in shots and the Golden Knights went 1-for-3 on the power play while the Red Raiders went 1-for-2 with a man advantage. Sophomore goaltender Kira McDonald (Pickering, ONT) made 15 saves for Clarkson and Rebecca Lahar made 22 saves for the Red Raiders.
