Another strong defensive effort resulted in the Clarkson University Women’s Hockey team’s ninth shutout of the season as the Golden Knights blanked Yale 1-0 before 242 fans at Cheel Arena on Saturday afternoon.
Junior Kira Hurley (Pickering, ONT) backboned Clarkson with 19 saves, but faced just two shots over the final 20 minutes, to post her NCAA-best eighth shutout of the season.
The Knights, who put 31 shots on the Bulldogs’ net, tallied the lone goal of the contest at 5:08 of the second period. Junior Ashley Shaidle (Hudson, OH) convert on the power play off an assist from freshman defenseman Kimberly McKenney (Smiths Falls, ONT) for her team-high 10th goal of the year.
Clarkson was 1-of-5 on the power play and held Yale (5-9-3, 2-4-4) scoreless on its two man-advantage chances.
The Knights, with a 15-7-1 overall record and a 7-3 ECAC Hockey League mark, continue their six-game January home stand next weekend when they host Colgate and Cornell.
