Potsdam, NY- For the second straight game against its arch-rival, the Clarkson University Women’s Hockey team got behind early and could not recover as St. Lawrence University handed the Golden Knights a 5-0 loss before 823 fans in ECAC Hockey League action at Cheel Arena on Saturday afternoon.
The Saints, who scored 11 seconds into the game on Friday night, tallied 57 seconds after the opening faceoff on Saturday and cruised from their to hand the Green and Gold their first shutout loss of the season. Meaghan Guckian blanked the Knights behind 21 saves for her second shutout of the season and 10th career whitewash.
Carson Duggan began the Saints scoring when she finished off a perfect pass in front from Sabrina Harbec during the second shift of the game. The pair connected again to start the second period with Duggan netting her fifth goal of the season at 4:18.
At 14:18 of the middle frame, Lisa Batchelor converted assists from Annie Guay and Brittaney Maschmeyer for a 3-0 lead.
The Saints closed the game out with a pair third-period goals from Alison Domenico.
St. Lawrence out shot Clarkson 31-21. Senior Kira Hurley (Pickering, ONT) posted 26 saves. The Saints were 1-of-4 on the power play and shut down the Knights on their six man-advantage opportunities.
At 2-3-1 overall and 0-2 in the ECACHL, Clarkson will look to break out of a four-game winless skid (0-3-1) when it plays at Quinnipiac and Princeton next weekend.
