Hamilton, NY - Senior Christine Bailkowski’s (Aurora, ONT) shorthanded marker at 3:51 of overtime capped off a come-from-behind effort for the Clarkson University Women’s Hockey team as they defeated ECACHL rival Colgate 2-1 at Starr Rink in Hamilton, NY.
The Golden Knights, who have won two in a row and four of their last five games, improved their record to 7-6-2 overall and to 2-4-1 in the ECACHL. Clarkson plays Cornell at Lynah Rink in Ithaca on Saturday, at 4:00 p.m.
After battling through two scoreless periods of play, the host Raiders took the initial lead on Friday with Tara French’s goal at 5:17 of the third stanza. With just 41 seconds remaining in regulation, however, Clarkson tied it up on sophomore Marie-Jo Gaudet’s (Sherbrooke, QUE) power-play goal off an assist from junior Brooke Beazer (Kingston, ONT).
Bailkowski ended the game when she took a long outlet pass from freshman defenseman Carlee Eusepi (Oakville, ONT) and went one-on-one with the Colgate goaltender, slipping in her fourth goal of the year through the five-hole for the game-winner.
Clarkson dominated on the shot chart, out shooting the Raiders 34-18, including a 14-4 margin in the third. Senior Stephanie Hansen (Calgary, ALB) made 17 saves in back boning the Green and Gold to only their second win ever over Colgate.
The Knights were 1-of-4 on the power play and killed off all three Colgate man-advantage attempts along with scoring the shorthanded, game-winner.
