Princeton, NJ - With her second goal of the third period, Marykate Oakley helped lead the Princeton Tigers to their sixth win in seven tries against the Clarkson University Women's Hockey team, defeating the Golden Knights 3-2 in the ECAC Hockey opener Friday night.

The Golden Knights fell to 4-2-1 overall and 0-1-0 in the conference, while Princeton earned its first win of the season to move to 1-0-2 overall and 1-0-0 in the ECAC Hockey league. Clarkson continues conference play on Saturday in Connecticut when the Knights take on Quinnipiac.

The Tigers opened the scoring in the first period when Brittany Salmon tallied her second score of the year at 11:15. Clarkson returned the favor near the close of the second frame with a power-play goal when Kimberly McKenney (Smiths Falls, ONT) found the back of the net with just seven seconds left in the period. Freshman Daris Tendler (Verwood, SASK) was awarded with the assist.

The third period saw plenty of action with three goals in less than seven minutes. Princeton reclaimed the lead at 2:44 with Oakley's first goal and second point of the game. Clarkson came right back at 5:03 as senior Jessica Cloutier (Parker, CO) tied the game with a pass from Britney Selina (Thornhill, ONT).

Oakley scored the game-winner on the power play with just under 11 minutes to play for the Tigers, keeping Clarkson winless in seven tries against Princeton.

Freshman goaltender Eve Grandmont-Berube (Drummondville, QUE) made 18 saves for Clarkson and Kristen Young made 22 stops for the Tigers. Clarkson edged Princeton 24-21 in shots and went 1-for-6 on the power play while the Tigers were 1-for-3 with the man-advantage, coming through with the game-winner on their third try.
