Potsdam, NY – Sophomore Britney Selina (Thornhill, ONT) scored one goal and assisted on another as the Clarkson University Hockey team earned a 2-2 tie against #2-ranked Mercyhurst College at Cheel Arena on Friday afternoon.

The Golden Knights, who extended their unbeaten streak to six games (5-0-1), remain unbeaten at home with a 6-0-1 mark in Potsdam this season. Clarkson stands at 9-2-2 overall. Playing for the first time since October 30, the Lakers are unbeaten in their last four games (3-0-1) to improve to 8-1-2.

Clarkson, of ECAC Hockey, and Mercyhurst of College Hockey America, will close out their two-game non-league series at Cheel on Saturday afternoon beginning at 2:00 p.m.

Freshman Melissa Waldie (Newmarket, ONT) put Clarkson on the scoreboard first at 13:32 of the first. Stationed at the side of the crease, Waldie took a perfect pass across the slot by Selina and slapped in her team-high seventh goal of the year while Mercyhurst was on a delayed penalty.

The Lakers tied it up late in the opening frame when freshman Jesse Scanzano knocked in a rebound during a scramble in front. Meghan Agosta and Hayley McMeekin assisted.

After a scoreless second period, Clarkson regained the lead early in the third stanza. The Knights appeared to take the lead 2:22 into the period, but Waldie’s bid for her second goal of the game was waved off because she knocked in the puck with a high stick. At 3:43, the Green and Gold made it official when Selina picked up a loose puck at the side of the net and fired a quick shot from a sharp angle that deflected in off the back of the goaltenders’ pad for her seventh goal of the season and a 2-1 Clarkson lead.

The Lakers came back with a furious bid to tie the game and finally found the equalizer with 4:48 left in regulation as McMeekin knocked in a rebound off of Scanzano's shot. Valerie Chouinard also assisted.

Clarkson was out shot for the first time this season with Mercyhurst holding a 31-22 advantage, including a 12-6 margin in the third period. Freshman Eve Grandmont Berube (Drummondville, QUE) posted a season-high 29 saves, including three stops in the five-minute overtime session. Senior Laura Hosier made 20 stops for the Lakers, including two in overtime.

The Knights were 0-of-4 on the power play, while Mercyhurst went 0-of-3 with the man advantage.
