Knights Continue Hot Streak with Win at Plattsburgh

October 22, 2008

Hilary Lockwood scored a team-high nine kills against Plattsburgh on Wednesday.

Plattsburgh, NY - For the seventh time in eight matches, the Clarkson University Volleyball team claimed victory and is certainly heading in the right direction at the most important time of the season as the Golden Knights picked up a three-set victory over Plattsburgh State, 26-24, 25-14, 25-16, Wednesday night at Memorial Hall.

The Golden Knights improved to 17-14 overall and are headed into their final regular season tournament of the campaign this weekend. Plattsburgh dropped to 7-26.

In the first game, Clarkson raced out to a 6-0 lead, but Plattsburgh climbed back into the contest and was actually up 21-18 late. The Knights scored eight of the final 11 points to win the set. The second set saw another equal start as the team’s split the first 22 points, but Clarkson ran off 12 straight with Alison Schroeder (Webster, NY) serving. The third set continued the streak of Clarkson late-runs as the Knights finished with 14 of the final 20 points.

"I thought we did a good job coming out strong in neutralizing the senior night emotions (on the Plattsburgh side), but we found ourselves struggling for most of the first set," said head coach Johan Dulfer. "We turned things around for the better when our offense became smarter and more aggressive. Our passing and defense was there today which is good to see. If we could put it all together, we are going to a dangerous team come (Liberty League) tournament time."

Senior Hilary Lockwood (Victor, NY) led the Knights with nine kills and classmate Stacy Storms (Marcy, NY) added in five kills. Junior setter Jenna Stock (Johnstown, NY) turned in a double-double with 17 digs and 12 assists, and Alison Schroeder contributed 13 digs and two aces.
