Ithaca, NY - Freshman Melissa Waldie (Newmarket, ONT) and junior Marie-Jo Gaudet (Sherbrooke, QUE) each scored twice as the Clarkson University Women's Hockey team picked up a 5-3 win over Cornell in ECAC Hockey action Friday night.
The Golden Knights pushed their conference point total to 22, taking sole possession of third place in the ECAC Hockey league wth a record of 10-5-2 and a 19-6-4 overall record. Cornell, in 7th place in the league, fell to 10-12-1 and 7-9-1. Clarkson will play Colgate on Saturday afternoon.
Falling behind 1-0 in the first period, Waldie and Gaudet each scored a goal in the first period to give the Knights a 2-1 lead. The Big Red tied the score in the second period, but two straight goals in the second, including a power-play goal from Britney Selina (Thornhill, ONT), helped give the Knights a lead that they would never relinquish.
Waldie and Gaudet each scored two points, both scoring twice, but Selina and Genevieve Lavoie (Delson, QUE) each earned three points for the Knights on the offensive side. Selina and Lavoie's assist totals, two and three, respectively, helped them both surpass the single-season Clarkson record for helpers in a season. Lavoie's 22 currently leads the team.
Freshman goaltender Lauren Dahm (Baldwinsville, NY) made 22 saves for Clarkson.
