Plattsburgh, NY - It appears that last week's matches in Chicago were nothing more than a hiccup for the Clarkson University Volleyball team as the Golden Knights swept matches from Paul Smith's College and Plattsburgh State on Saturday afternoon at Memorial Hall.
The Golden Knights moved to 18-5 on the season, ending a three-match losing streak. Clarkson will host SUNYIT on Sunday afternoon.
Clarkson won both matches convincingly, cruising to straight set wins in both. Against Paul Smiths, the Knights easily put away the opponents 25-5, 25-14, 25-7, and then against the host Plattsburgh, Clarkson won 25-13, 25-9, 25-15.
"Today was about taking care of business," head coach Johan Dulfer said. "We are going into an exciting final stretch of the season and a win is a win from here on out. That said, I thought we did a good job implementing some of the things we worked on in practice. Our serving game was on today, and we did some nice things on offense. If we continue to find ways to get better, we will continue to be a hard team to play."
Against Paul Smiths, the serving game was truly impressive as senior Jenna Stock (Johnstown, NY) aced the Bobcats six times, and sophomore Sara Artus (St. Regis Falls, NY) added three more aces. Clarkson was also clicking offensively, hitting at a .404 clip for the entire match (28 kills-7 errors-47 swings).
Versus Plattsburgh, the Knights were challenged a bit more, but still were able to sweep the Cardinals. Nicole Edwards (Weiser, ID) had five aces and Alison Schroeder (Webster, NY) added four more service aces. Artus led the team with 15 kills and 12 digs, and Stock had 23 assists, 12 digs, and 8 kills.
