Clarkson Recovers For 4-1 Win Over Colgate

Dominique Thibault scored two goals in the win at Colgate

Hamilton, NY - A tough loss on the road could have begun an unwelcome trend for the Clarkson University Women's Hockey team, but the Golden Knights didn't let Friday's loss to Cornell carry over as the Green and Gold jumped out to a two-goal lead in the first period en route to a 4-1 victory over Colgate Saturday afternoon.

The Golden Knights, ranked second in the nation, improved to 12-2-1 overall and 6-1-0 in ECAC Hockey play, while Colgate fell to 2-8-2 and 1-3-2. Clarkson will receive a much deserved break for two weeks before traveling out to face Minnesota following the Thanksgiving holiday.

Clarkson appeared to be headed towards a fourth straight scorless period on Saturday, but in the final two minutes the Knights saw a pair of seniors come through to put Clarkson up 2-0 before the first intermission. Genevieve Lavoie (Delson, QUE) scored her second goal of the season with just 1:33 remaining in the frame with an assist going to Danielle Boudreau (Whitby, ONT). Then, with nine seconds to go in the period, Clarkson's Dominique Thibault (L'Original, QUE) gave the team further cushion with an unassisted marker at 19:51.

In the second period, Clarkson again waited until the near close of the period before tallying another goal. Again, Thibault was the goal scorer, this time with Danielle Skirrow (Trenton, ONT) assisting at 18:10 of the second period.

The third period would see a quicker score for Clarkson as they pulled out to what proved to be an insurmountable advantage at 4:17, as sophomore Juana Bairbeau (Amos, QUE) scored her ninth goal of the season on the power play. Senior Britney Selina (Thornhill, ONT) and junior Melissa Waldie (Newmarket, ONT) each assisted on the Knights' final goal of the contest.

Colgate scored their lone goal of the game in the final five minutes.

The Knights had a narrow 30-28 edge in shots as Lauren Dahm (Baldwinsville, NY) made 27 saves. The Raiders' Kimberly Sass made 26 saves.
