A strong penalty-kill in the final minute of overtime enabled the Clarkson University Women’s Hockey team to skate away with a key point in ECAC Hockey play on the road as the Golden Knights battled to a 1-1 draw against Rensselaer before 200 fans at Houston Field House in Troy, NY on Saturday afternoon.

Clarkson, which defeated Union 3-1 on Friday, stands atop the ECAC Hockey standings with a 9-1-1 conference mark. Ranked third in the nation entering the weekend, the Knights own a 15-4-2 overall record. The Green and Gold continue their six-game road trip next weekend when they play two games at #1-ranked Mercyhurst College in Erie PA.

Sophomore Brittany Mulligan (London, ONT) recorded her second goal of the weekend and her third of the season with an unassisted tally at 11:21 of the first period to give Clarkson the early lead.

Mulligan capitalized on a tunrover in the RPI zone and rifled a shot five-hole from the right circle.

Rensselaer (7-9-5, 4-3-3), which is undefeated against the Knights over their past three meetings (2-0-1), tied the contest early in the second frame off a power-play goal from Allison Wright at 4:43.

The Knights had an excellent opportunity to take the lead with a pair of power-play opportunities over the final 20 minutes, but could not get the go ahead goal past the Engineers’ goaltender Sonja van der Bliek.

Rensselaer had the chance in overtime, skating with the man-advantage, to gain the win, but junior goaltender Lauren Dahm (Baldwinsville, NY) turned aside both shots she faced in the extra session.

Clarkson held a 34-32 shot advantage. The Knights went 0-of-2 on the power play, while RPI was 1-of-2 with the extra skater.
