Clarkson Battles Back to Tie Harvard 2-2.

After falling behind 2-0, the 7th-ranked Clarkson University Women's Hockey team scored the final two goals of the game and played 4th-ranked Harvard to a 2-2 tie in Cheel Arena on Friday night.

The tie brings Clarkson's record to 8-3-1 and 3-0-1 in ECAC Hockey play. It also extends the Golden Knights' unbeaten streak in ECAC Hockey regular games to 20 games, with 16 wins and now four ties in that span.

"Tonight was a great tie for us against a good Harvard team," stated Clarkson Head Coach Matt Desrosiers. "Coming back after being down by two goals really showed a lot about the character we have in that locker room. We came out a little flat in the first period so being able to find a way to battle back into the game was great to see. We could have easily folded tent as Harvard is a very deep team that comes at you shift after shift but our players seemed to get better and more determined as the game went on. We are definitely going to see the benefits of gaining that point later on in the season."

Harvard would strike first, scoring just 1:25 into the game. Hayley Mullens was able to steal the puck in the Clarkson defensive end and beat Clarkson freshman goalkeeper Shea Tiley (Owen Sound, ONT) with a quick shot.

After Harvard was able to kill a five minute Clarkson power play early in the second period, their defensive pressure again would help the Crimson double their lead. At 7:46, Sydney Daniels was able to poke the puck home to make it 2-0. Clarkson would cut the lead in half at 19:24 when junior captain Shannon MacAulay (Mt. Herbert, PEI) passed to her classmate Olivia Howe (Moose Jaw, SASK) whose shot beat Harvard keeper Emer Maschmeyer. The goal was Howe's fourth of the year, while the assist was MacAuley's 10th of the year and also extended MacAuley's streak of consecutive games with at least a point to six.

Clarkson would tie the game on a power play goal at 2:31 in the third period. Junior assistant captain Renata Fast (Burlington, ONT) scored her first goal of the season with Howe and freshman Amanda Titus (Stittsville, ONT) picking up assists. Fast's goal means she has a point in all three games she has played while Titus' assist is the first of her collegiate career.

Both teams would have chances to grab a winning goal, but both Tiley and Maschmeyer were able to keep the score knotted at 2 through the rest of the third period and overtime. Tiley finished with three saves in the overtime period and 21 in the game, while Maschmeyer finished with 25 in her first start this season.

The Green and Gold held a 27-23 advantage in shots and 1-5 in man-advantage opportunities while Harvard was 0-1. The Crimson committed six penalties for a total of 23 minutes in the box while Clarkson had a solitary penalty for two minutes.

The Golden Knights will return to action tomorrow when they host 10th ranked Dartmouth for a 4:00 pm game in Cheel Arena.
