Box Score
In a rematch of the 2014 ECAC Hockey Tournament Championship, the Clarkson University Women's Hockey team fell to visiting Cornell 8-3 on Friday night in Cheel Arena.

Clarkson is now 11-6-1 overall and 5-2-1 in ECAC Hockey play.

"Obviously we didn't get the results we were looking for in a big conference game'" stated Clarkson Head Coach Matt Desrosiers. "I thought we started the game off well and worked hard to get the first goal, but giving up those shorthanded goals really changed the momentum of that game. We had a lot of very uncharacteristic defensive breakdowns that put our goaltenders in some tough spots. We need to make sure we are better around our net tomorrow and look to end the first semester on a good note."

The Golden Knights would open the scoring when sophomore Genevieve Bannon's (Candiac, QUE) shot deflected off the back of the Big Red goaltender and into the net at 6:31 of the first period. Junior captain Shannon MacAulay (Mt. Herbert, PEI) and junior Cayley Mercer (Exeter, ONT) were credited with assists on the goal.

When Clarkson went on a power-play at 8:01, it looked like they might extend their lead. However, on the ensuing face-off, Jillian Saulnier stole a Clarkson pass and went on a breakaway and put a shot past Clarkson freshman goaltender Shea Tiley (Owen Sound, ONT) to tie the game. At 9:22, the Big Red would score another short-hand goal when Saulnier was able to play a centering pass to Brianne Jenner who scored.

At 11:33, the Saulnier to Jenner connection struck again when Saulnier's long pass found Jenner behind the Clarkson defense and Jenner put it away for her second goal of the game. Cornell would tack on a fourth first-period goal when, during a power-play, Jenner passed to Briann Veerman in front of the net for a tap-in at 15:12.

At 0:28 in the second period, Cornell went on a two-minute man-advantage opportunity looking to add to their lead. Clarkson held strong, denying Cornell a goal during the power-play, but just eight seconds after it ended, Saulnier racked up her third assist when she found Jess Brown who scored. After this goal, sophomore McKenzie Johnson (Eden Prairie, MN) replaced Tiley in the Clarkson net. It would be the second career appearance for Johnson, who debuted in the 9-0 win over Syracuse earlier this season.

Cornell would add a sixth goal at 8:53 when Brown tipped in a Hanna Bunton shot.

Clarkson would drag a goal back in the third period at 2:22 when junior assistant captain Renata Fast (Burlington, ONT) scored off a rebound from an Olivia Howe (Moose Jaw, SASK) shot. Freshman Lauren Lefler (Windsor, ONT) also had an assist on the goal. However, Cornell would score again at 8:25. Brown would complete her hat trick when Saulnier found her in front of the net. It was the fourth assist of the game for Saulnier.

Clarkson would add a third goal when junior assistant captain Erin Ambrose (Keswick, ONT) finished a Brielle Bellerive (N. Vancouver, BC) rebound. But Cornell would yet again answer when Kaitlin Doering scored. The eight goals scored by Cornell represent a program-high for goals allowed by Clarkson.
