Tiley Stops 42 Shots in 3-1 Win

For the third time in four meetings this season, the Clarkson University Women's Hockey team defeated rival St. Lawrence, this time winning 3-1 at Appleton Arena in Canton on Tuesday night.

Clarkson is now 17-8-3 overall and 11-3-2 in ECAC Hockey play while St. Lawrence falls to 16-9-3 overall and 10-4-2 in conference. With six games remaining in the regular season, the Golden Knights are tied for third place in the league standings, just two points out of first place.
Clarkson will travel to Troy, NY for a 7:00 pm game on Friday against Rensselaer and then to Schenectady for a 4:00 pm game against Union on Saturday.

"With two crucial points at stake tonight, we knew we were going to have to be on our game as SLU has been playing really well lately'" stated Clarkson Head Coach Matt Desrosiers." I thought our players did a great job sticking to our game plan and played well within our system. For the most part I thought we kept them to the outside much of the night not giving up a lot around our net. SLU did a great job in the third period though finding lanes to get some pucks on net through traffic. Shea did an outstanding job tracking those pucks and not allowing SLU many second or third opportunities off of rebounds or loose pucks. That really helped us maintain our composure in times when they were able to put a little pressure on us. One thing I was really impressed with tonight though was our commitment and work ethic in a few small areas of the game that make a big difference in important games like this and in playoffs. There were a couple plays that really stood out where we were able to get a couple icings waved off at crucial times in the game just by sheer hustle. If we can maintain that type of commitment, determination, and understanding that those plays make a big difference, that should bode well for us down the stretch and come playoff time."

After a scoreless first period, junior assistant captain Olivia Howe (Moose Jaw, SASK) opened the scoring at 6:28 in the second period. She picked up a loose puck knocked free from St. Lawrence defender by senior Christine Lambert (Thetford Mines, QUE) on the left circle and then glided past the Saints goaltender and finished a backhanded shot for her second unassisted goal in as many games. 23 of her 25 Clarkson goals have now come in Golden Knight wins.

The Green and Gold would double their lead at 17:30 in the same period when junior Cayley Mercer (Exeter, ONT) scored off a pass from Lambert with Howe also picking up an assist on the score.

Clarkson would add a third at 7:08 when Lambert, with her third assist of the night, found sophomore Genevieve Bannon (Candiac, QUE) all alone on the back post for a power-play goal. Junior assistant captain Erin Ambrose (Keswick, ONT) also had an assist on the goal.

St. Lawrence, in an attempt to get back into the contest, pulled their goaltender for the last 8:37 of the game in favor of an extra attacker. The strategy would help them score one goal, with Kirsten Padalis scoring at 17:31. However, the stellar play of Clarkson freshman goaltender Shea Tiley (Owen Sound, ONT) ensure that was the only goal the 8th-ranked Saints would score. She finished with a career high 42 saves, including 18 in the final frame, which is also a career high.

St. Lawrence held a 43-25 advantage in shots. Clarkson was 1-4 on man-advantage opportunities and killed off all five St. Lawrence power plays.
