Steady contributions from virtually every player on the Clarkson University Baseball team allowed the team to record a 24-9 record during the 2015 season, but the Golden Knights still walked away with two of the Liberty League's major awards on Monday when it was announced that senior shortstop John Coleman was chosen as the Liberty League Player of the Year and freshman pitcher/outfielder Will Coleman was picked as the Liberty League Rookie of the Year.

Both Coleman brothers were also picked to the Liberty League All-Star team, as was junior first baseman Greg Jasek.

2015 Liberty League All-Stars

John Coleman, a four-time Liberty League All-Star, became only the third player in team history to earn conference Player of the Year honors, joining Dan Hojnacki (2004) and David Kinney (2011, 2012), and he was also selected as the Liberty League First-Team All-Star squad's shortstop, unanimously, for the second straight year. It was hard to argue with Coleman's overall production; he finished in the top five in the conference in batting average (.437, second), on-base percentage (.525, fourth), and slugging (.605, fourth), the only player in the league to accomplish the feat. Coleman also placed fifth in runs with 35, was tied for third in hits with 52, and ranked second in the league with six triples. He failed to reach base only twice in 32 games. Defensively, Coleman once again was the top shortstop in the conference and one of the best in the country, committing only six errors in 168 chances and helping turn 17 double plays. Thanks to an outstanding senior season, he has moved up to second all-time at Clarkson in hits (179), eighth in runs (108) and is sixth among hitters with at least 250 at bats with a batting average of .352. Coleman also was chosen as the Liberty League Co-Player of the Year during the 2014-15 season for the Golden Knights' Men's Basketball team.

Will Coleman saw action at several different spots on the field as a first-year player and his versatility played a key role in the team's success, helping him earn Liberty League Rookie of the Year honors and mention as a Liberty League Second-Team All-Star at the utility spot. Coleman becomes the third Clarkson baseball player in the last four years to earn conference rookie honors, joining his brother John Coleman (2012) and teammate Greg Jasek (2013). Coleman pitched in both a starting and relief role, played left field, center field, shortstop, second base and also served as the team's designated hitter in 2015, but his biggest contributions came on the mound. Coleman finished the season 5-0 with an earned run average of 2.78, (eighth in the conference), allowed batters a .228 average (sixth in the league), and was second in the league with an additional four saves. Minus one tough start, his ERA would have dropped to 1.42 and his opponents' batting average would have fallen to .192, figures that would rank first and second in the conference, respectively. At the plate, Coleman batted .351 and drove in 22 runs with eight steals. Over his final 12 contests, which included a season-ending 10-game hitting streak, he batted .500 (24-for-48). Most impressively, he struck out only twice in 118 plate appearances during 2015.

Joining Will Coleman as a Liberty League Second-Team All-Star was junior Greg Jasek. His third selection to the Liberty League All-Star team in as many years, Jasek was relegated to first baseman and designated hitter duties due to an injury that wouldn't allow him to pitch but a few innings after the team's Florida trip. Regardless, Jasek showed why he was a conference all-star as a utility player as a sophomore, setting career-highs in numerous categories. He batted .365 (11th in the conference) and ranked in the top 20 in the league in slugging (.487) and on-base percentage (.436). His 14 doubles were tied for fourth in the conference and he drove in a team-best 33 runs (10th in the Liberty League), the most by any Clarkson player since 2011. In his brief time on the mound, he finished 2-0 in three appearances with two complete games, striking out 18 in 18 innings.
