Desrosiers Earns 200th Win in Women's Hockey 4-1 Victory

Box Score

Thanks to a late push, the #6/7 ranked Clarkson University Women's Hockey team continued its winning streak, this time knocking off Yale 4-1 on Saturday afternoon.

Clarkson improves to 12-3-1 overall and an unblemished 8-0-0 in ECAC Hockey games. Yale drops to 4-5-1 overall and 2-5-1 in conference. The win for Clarkson was its 10th in a row and the 200th of head coach Matt Desrosiers' career.

"I thought we lacked a little bit of energy in the first period, but did a good job turning things around for the second and third," stated Desrosiers. "As soon as we started moving our feet and not being hesitant the rest of our game picked up. Those two points are going to be valuable down the road as I think Yale is a team that is going to be able to take some points off teams."

Recently, Clarkson has made a habit of taking the lead early and never letting go. On Saturday though, it was Yale who struck first as Eden Murray scored at 16:30 in the first period to give the Bulldogs a 1-0 lead.

After that first salvo though, the Golden Knights struck back hard and fast. Just 1:06 into the second period, Clarkson was level thanks to a power-play goal by assistant captain Genevieve Bannon. The Green and Gold took the lead at 9:00 in the middle frame on a goal by co-captain Cayley Mercer.

In the third period, Clarkson extended its lead. Rhyen McGill had an assist on Bannon's goal and added a goal at 1:20 in the third period. Bannon had the assist on McGill's goal and then the pair combined for another goal at 8:07, with McGill setting up Bannon once again.

Clarkson finished with a staggering 38-18 lead in shots and was 1/3 on the power-play while Yale was 0/3 on extra man opportunities. Shea Tiley made 17 saves for Clarkson and Kyra O'Brien had 34 stops for Yale.

Clarkson will take a break from conference opponents next weekend. Instead, the Golden Knights will travel to Burlington, Vermont for the Windjammer Classic.
