Golden Knights Women's Hoops Drops 74-61 Decision Versus Oneonta State

Oneonta, NY – The first eight minutes of Saturday night's game were not kind to the Clarkson University Women's Basketball team and the Golden Knights were unable to climb out of an early hole as the Green and Gold dropped a 74-61 decision to Oneonta State.

Clarkson moved to 1-1 on the young season and will face Hartwick College at 1:00 pm on Sunday afternoon.

The Knights scored the first two points of the game but just over three minutes later they trailed 14-2. That deficit would increase to 15 points in the first quarter and the Knights found themselves down by 14 through the first 7:42 of the game, having shot just 3-for-11 with seven turnovers. Clarkson finally began to find a little offense and cut the margin to eight points on two occasions in the second quarter before closing the half down by 11. Clarkson was just 1-for-9 from beyond the 3-point arc in the opening 20 minutes.

Though Oneonta would increase its lead to 17 points late in the third quarter, the Knights finished the third period with a 7-0 run. Just a minute into the fourth Clarkson was within seven, but it took a few more minutes for Clarkson to really cut into the Red Dragons lead. A Devin Sorell 3-pointer at 3:29 saw the Knights within five, but that was as close as Clarkson could get. Although Molly Stewart buried a 3-pointer with 1:15 left, the Knights could not get another shot to fall, going 0-for-5 in the last 75 seconds while Oneonta tacked on seven more points for a double-digit win.

Stephanie Grobe and Madison Shea each scored 14 points to lead Clarkson, while Devin Sorell tacked on 12 points and Kathleen Coloney hit double figures with 10 points. Alyssia Marsal also contributed eight points and 13 rebounds. For Oneonta State, Cara Adams had a game-high 18 points. Samantha Lisikatos had 14 points and seven assists and Sara Dipasquale added 13 points and eight boards.
