Box Score A goal late in the first period was the difference as the fifth-ranked Clarkson University Women's Hockey team fell to fourth-ranked Quinnipiac in the ECAC Hockey Championship on Sunday afternoon in High Point Solutions Arena.
Clarkson's 18 game unbeaten run is broken and the Golden Knights now have a 29-4-5 record. Quinnipiac is now 29-2-5. The two teams will now await their fate in the NCAA Tournament. The selection show will take place at 9 pm on Sunday night and can be viewed at http://www.ncaa.com/live/player?vid=2016/2304&date=2016/03/06.
Quinnipiac took the lead with a goal with 1:40 left in the first period. Nicole Connery's shot went wide of the Clarkson goal, but the puck rebounded off the back wall to Nicole Brown who was able to score with a one-time shot.
That turned out to be the only goal of the game as the two best defensive teams in the ECAC limited each other from creating good scoring opportunities. Clarkson's best chance came in the final minute of the second period when sophomore Amanda Titus' shot hit the post and cruelly bounced out.
Clarkson was outshot for the first time this season, 17-16 and the 16 shots are the lowest total this season for the Golden Knights. Clarkson was 0-1 on the power-play and killed all three extra-man opportunities for Quinnipiac. Both sophomore goaltender Shea Tiley for Clarkson and Sydney Rossman made 16 saves in net.
