Game Recap: Women's Hockey |

Clarkson Earns 4-0 Win at St. Lawrence

A three-goal burst early in the second period and a 21-save effort from Kassidy Sauve (Whitby, ONT) powered the 5th-ranked Clarkson University Women's Hockey team past St. Lawrence 4-0 in ECAC Hockey action at Appleton Arena in Canton on Friday afternoon.

The Golden Knights and Saints will close out their season series with a 3:00 p.m. game at Cheel Arena on Saturday afternoon.

Clarkson, which split a non-league weekend with St. Lawrence earlier in the season, improved to 13-4 overall. The Knights snapped a three-game league losing skid to move to 4-3 in conference play.

After a scoreless first period, Clarkson broke the rivalry game open with three quick scores in a span of 2:19 to start the second.

Sophomore Elizabeth Giguere (Quebec City, QUE) started things off at 3:33, knocking in a centering pass from senior Kelly Mariani (Mississauga, ONT) at the doorstep for her 12th goal of the season.

Just 19 seconds later, senior Cassidy Vinkle (Belleville, ONT) finished off a pass from junior Michaela Pejzlova (Pardubice, Czech Rep.) for her second goal of the year and first since the opening game of the season. T.T. Cianfarano (Oswego, NY) started the play by forcing a St. Lawrence turnover in the neutral zone.

At 5:52, sophomore Kristy Pidgeon (Ingleside, ONT), found a loose puck at center ice and skated into the Saints' zone where she fired in a shot from the bottom of the right circle for her third goal of the season.

Sophomore center Tia Stoddard (La Mesa, CA) added the fourth goal midway through the final period. Just out of the penalty box, Stoddard scored into an empty net at 12:00 for her third goal of the season.

Clarkson's penalty-killing unit, backstopped by Sauve, was in top form, shutting down all five of St. Lawrence power play opportunities. The Knights went scoreless on their lone man-advantage.

Clarkson outshot the Saints on their home ice 29-21.

Sauve posted eight first-period saves, seven in the middle frame and six more stops over the final 20 minutes to record her third shutout of the season and second straight whitewash of St. Lawrence. She also made 22 saves in the 4-0 win over the Saints at Cheel on October 20.
