Clarkson Well Represented on 2017-18 ECAC All-Star Team

With two first-team all-stars, a second-team selection and two more Golden Knights on the third team along with an all-rookie team member, the Clarkson University Hockey team had the most players in the 12-team conference earn 2017-2018 ECAC Hockey All-Stars honors.

Clarkson also had four individuals and Head Coach Casey Jones named as finalists for the conference's six major awards. Sophomore center Nico Sturm highlighted this group as he was voted ECAC Hockey's Best Defensive forward. The six league all-stars is the most for Clarkson since 1994-95.

Sophomore right wing Sheldon Rempal and senior defenseman Kelly Summers were selected ECAC Hockey First-Team All-Stars. The two standouts are the first Golden Knights since 2007-08 to earn conference first-team honors. 

Senior defenseman Terrance Amorosa was named to the second-team, while Sturm and sophomore goaltender Jake Kielly garnered third-team honors. Freshman forward Jack Jacome was named to the conference's six-member All-Rookie squad. Head Coach Casey Jones was also named a finalist for the league's Tim Taylor Coach of the Year Award.

One of the most dynamic forwards in the nation, Rempal was the third-leading goal scorer in the league with 15 goals through 21 games. The 5-10, 165-pound right wing was tied for fifth in the conference in points with 26.  The Calgary, Alb. native is Clarkson's leading scorer and the fourth-leading scorer overall in ECAC Hockey with 39 points on 21 goals and 18 assists through 33 games. His goal total is the highest for the Knights in 10 years and his point total is the best at Clarkson since the 2006-07 campaign.  He leads Clarkson in game-winning goals with four and was third in ECAC Hockey with three in the league play. Rempal is a key contributor on Clarkson's highly-rated power play with a team-high six goals on the man-advantage, five coming in league action.  An ECAC Hockey All-Rookie selection last year, he was twice named ECAC Hockey Player of the Week (10/16, 11/21) and mentioned on the conference weekly Honor Roll three times. Rempal has accumulated 62 career points (32-30) in 72 games. 
 
Regarded as one of the hardest hitters in the league, Summers is also a productive offensive force from the blueline and led all ECAC Hockey defensemen in scoring both in the conference and overall. The 6-1, 204-pound, Golden Lake, Ont. native tallied a league-high 20 points (5-15) from the blueline in 22 conference games and led conference defenseman in power play points (3-10-13) and tied for second among all ECAC players, on Clarkson's top-rated power-play. Summers is the Knights' fourth leading scorer with 28 points on six goals and 22 assists. He teams with classmate Terrance Amorosa to provide Clarkson with one of the best blueline pairings in the country, leading the Green and Gold to the second-ranked defense in the nation, allowing only 1.91 goals per game. An Ottawa Senators draft choice (2014, 7th round), Summers, who is Clarkson's leader in block shots (51), was also a finalists for ECAC Hockey's Best Defenseman award.
 
A Philadelphia Flyers draft choice (2013, 5th round), Amorosa is a steady all-around 6-2, 202-pound defenseman who helps anchor the Knights' solid effort on the blueline. He is a key component on Clarkson's third-rated power play with 14 (6-8) points on the man-advantage. The Kirkland, Que. native has tallied 25 points, including 16 assists through 34 games. All six of his goals have come on the power play. Amorosa recorded 16 points (3-13) in ECAC Hockey action. He posts a +16 plus/minus rating. Amorosa was named ECAC Hockey Player of the Month for October and earned conference Player of the Week once.

Following up on his outstanding freshman campaign when he was named to the league's All-Rookie team, Kielly was a finalist for ECAC Hockey's Ken Dryden Goaltender of the Year to go along with his third-team selection this season. Kielly, who has played more minutes than any other conference goaltender both overall (1,968) and in league (1,248) has backstopped Clarkson to best ECAC Showing in 10 years. The 6-2, 200-pound Eden Prairie, Minn. native posted the sixth best goals against average and save percentage in conference play and holds the fifth-best goals against average (1.86) in Division I and the seventh-rated save percentage (.929) through 33 games. A 2018 Mike Richter Award Finalist, which honors the most outstanding goaltender in NCAA men's hockey, Kielly was named ECAC Hockey Goaltender of the Month three times (October, November, December). He is tied for the fifth most wins in the country (19) and is tied for second in shutouts (7).

The top player in the country at the faceoff circle, winning 62.1% (393-240) of his draws, Sturm is a solid 200-foot player. The 6-3, 207-pound center is Clarkson's second-leading scorer with 33 points on 14 goals and 19 assists. He posted 24 points (10-14) in league play. The Augsburg, Germany native plays a leading role on the Knights' specialty teams, which are rated first in the country in combined play (55.7%). Sturm scored five power-play goals, two shorthanded markers and three game-winners. He posts a team-high +17 plus/minus rating and has 21 blocked shots. Sturm was an All-Rookie team selection last year.

Jacome emerged as one of the top rookie forwards in the nation. The 5-7, 160-pound wing was the second-leading rookie scorer in conference, averaging a point per game in conference play with five goals and 17 assists in 22 ECAC Hockey contests. The Caledon, Ont. native is Clarkson's fifth-leading scorer with 26 points on six goals and 20 assists. Jacome, who was a finalist for the conference Rookie of the Year award, was selected NCAA Hockey Rookie of the Month and ECAC Hockey Rookie of the Month in November.
