McGill Scores Twice in 3-3 Tie on the Road

Senior Rhyen McGill (Whitby, ONT) scored twice in her return to the lineup, but despite a huge advantage in shots, fourth-ranked Clarkson had to settle for a 3-3 tie on the road against 10th-ranked Robert Morris in Pittsburgh, PA on Friday night.

Clarkson, which stands at 3-1-1, and Robert Morris (2-2-1) will close out their non-league series with a 3:00 p.m. faceoff on Saturday.

After a weekend off, the Golden Knights show little signs of any rust, outshooting the Colonials 42-17, including a 28-9 margin through the first 40 minutes.

Clarkson jumped out to 2-0 lead early in the middle frame. McGill tallied on the power play at 9:47 of the first period and senior assistant captain Taylor Turnquist (Blaine, MN) connected 95 seconds into the second for her second goal of the season.

Robert Morris then took advantage of a string of Clarkson penalties to score three unanswered power-play goals. Former Golden Knight Michaela  Boyle started the home team on the roll, connecting at 3:11. Jaycee Gebhard followed at 5:15 and Emily Curlett put Robert Morris in front 3-2 at 13:02.

McGill closed out a wild second period, with the Knights' third score, another power-play marker at 16:42 of the stanza. Turnquist and freshman defenseman Lauren Bernard (Madison, OH) set up the goal for their second assists of the night.

Clarkson held a 14-8 shot advantage over the final 25 minutes, but could not come through with the go-ahead goal. Junior Elizabeth Giguere (Quebec City, QUE) had 11 shots on the Robert Morris net.

Junior Amanda Zeglen (Calgary, ALB) posted 14 saves to remain unbeaten in the Clarkson crease with a 2-0-1 mark.

Both teams had nine power-play opportunities, with Clarkson connecting twice and the Colonials three times.
