Game Recap: Women's Hockey |

Clarkson Gains a Point to Close Out Long Weekend

In the second game of a long weekend road trip, the Clarkson University Women's Hockey team, playing with a depleted lineup due to injuries, was able to come away with a point in ECAC Hockey action after skating to a 2-2 tie with Quinnipiac in Hamden, CT on Saturday afternoon.

The Golden Knights, who fell 2-1 at Princeton on Friday, came into the weekend with just nine forwards able to play and were also missing the services of their captain, all-star defenseman Ella Shelton (Ingersoll, ONT).

Ranked fifth in the national polls, Clarkson stands at 10-2-4 overall and 3-1-2 in ECAC Hockey play. The Green and Gold will be in action at the Windjammer Tournament this coming weekend in Burlington, VT.

Clarkson extended its unbeaten streak over Quinnipiac to six games (4-0-2), but the Knights had their chances to skate away with a win.

After a scoreless first period, Clarkson jumped out to a 2-0 lead late in the middle frame. One of the top players in the country, Elizabeth Giguere (Quebec City, QUE) extended her point streak to nine games, connecting on the power play at 4:14. Senior Kayla Friesen (Winnipeg, MAN) fed a pass to Giguere at the left post where the junior right wing tapped in her 15th goal of the season. Freshman left wing Gabrielle David (Drummondville, QUE) also set up the power-play score for her 16th assist of the season.

Senior center Michaela Pejzlova (Pardubice, Czech Rep) made it 2-0 with an unassisted goal during a 4-on-4 situation, lifting in a loose puck in the slot at 15:56 for her sixth goal of the year.

With the second period winding down, the Bobcats got on the scoreboard with a goal by Lexie Adzija at 19:05.

Quinnipiac scored again early in the third period with Kate Reilly making it a 2-2 game just 24 seconds in.

Clarkson outshot the Bobcats 28-25, including a 13-2 margin through the opening 20 minutes. Quinnipiac, however had the better of the play over the next 40 minutes with a 22-13 advantage in shots. The Knights outshot the Bobcats 2-1 in the five minute overtime session.

Sophomore Marie-Pier Coulombe (Carignan, QUE) finished with 23 saves.

Both teams had two power plays with Clarkson scoring once on the man-advantage.
