Knights Fall in Liberty League Semifinals to Ithaca, 25-12

Geneva, NY – Much like the first time the two teams met, the Clarkson University Women's Lacrosse team simply could not keep pace with the scoring rate set by Ithaca College as the Golden Knights dropped a 25-12 decision to the Bombers in the Liberty League Semifinals on Saturday afternoon at William Smith College.

The Golden Knights dropped to 12-7 overall with the defeat, while Ithaca, ranked 21st in the country, improved to 13-5.

In the first six minutes of the contest, both Jacqui Hallack and Bailey Herr scored twice to put Ithaca up 4-0. The Bombers would push the advantage to 7-0 thanks to two more goals from Elizabeth Rice before Clarkson got on the board. Abby Collins converted at 20:44 from Sydney Roderick, and Roderick then tallied just 54 seconds later. For the next 15 minutes the two teams played pretty much even, but the Bombers assured themselves of momentum for the second half by scoring three times in the final two minutes of the half, with Rice picking up two scores and Herr adding a goal as well.

The second half did not have quite the same offensive tilt as the first, but the Bombers still produced enough goals to keep the clock moving, starting with a 10-goal lead at the 20:24 mark and at the 18:15 mark, and maintaining the double-digit advantage for the final 15 minutes as Clarkson was unable to score again after Jaid Baytos's goal at 16:25.

Ithaca held leads in shots (33-21) and shots on goal (29-18) and had a distinct advantage on groundballs (17-6) with a modest edge in draw controls (22-16).

Sydney Roderick scored six points with two goals and four assists to lead the Knights, while Baytos added three goals and four draw controls. Aubrey Borgesi also added three goals and Marisa Clark had two points with a goal and an assist. Katie Sergeant also scored a goal, the 35th of the season and the 100th of her career.

For Ithaca, Bailey Herr produced nine points on six goals and three assists while Elizabeth Rice added six goals and four draw controls. Jacqui Hallack had five goals and six draws and Allie Panara produced four points (2-2-4) and seven draws. Danika Wagener also had a goal and two assists to go along with three groundballs.
