Clarkson won Thursday night in exciting fashion when
Caitrin Lonergan got her 3rd of the season 3:15 into overtime to give the Knights the win on the road to climb to 3-0 on the season.
Clarkson never trailed in this game as they came out strong in the first period.Â
Laurence Frenette scored at 12:31 of the first, assisted by Lonergan, to put the Knights up 1-0. The teams traded goals in the 2nd, as 'Cuse tied it but Clarkson regained the lead when
Brooke McQuigge went under the crossbar with a backhand to put Clarkson up 2-1 after 2 periods of play.
The Orange tied up the game midway through the 3rd period and the game remained that way for the rest of regulation. Overtime went to the 3 v 3 format and with Syracuse late in a shift
Gabrielle David was able to create a 2-1 to the net. David fed Lonergan, who tried to tap it back, the puck bounced off the Syracuse netminder who couldn't get it covered and Lonergan was able to bang the puck into the empty net for the win.
Clarkson was 0 for 2 on the power play, while holding Syracuse to 0 for 7 on the advantage. Â
Michelle Pasiechnyk made 30 saves for her 2nd win on the season.Â
Anne Cherkowski was credited with an assist to get her first point as a Golden Knight.
