Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Knights Doubled Up by Oneonta State, 4-2

Oneonta, NY – When the Clarkson University Men's Soccer team and Oneonta State put a shot on goal it usually found its way through to the back of the net on Saturday, as the Red Dragons defeated the Green and Gold 4-2 on Saturday afternoon in the first game of the Oneonta Mayor's Cup Tournament.

The Golden Knights dropped to 0-3-1 on the season and will look for a split for the weekend when they face Hartwick College on Sunday. Oneonta State remained unbeaten at 2-0-1.

Though the shots were 13-7 in favor of the Red Dragons, just nine total shots ended up on frame in the game and six resulted in goals scored. Oneonta State got on the board first when some pressure off a goal kick saw the Knights turn the ball over about 30 yards out. Alex Sipos took advantage in hit a hard grounder from the top of the 18 to put the Dragons up 1-0 at 17:30.

Clarkson tied the game nine minutes later at 26:23. Following a direct kick from roughly 35 yards away, the ball was headed toward the sideline where another cross found its way near the top of the six. The Oneonta goalkeeper came out but was unable to corral the ball and it was softly cleared out by another Red Dragons' defender. It found the foot of Logan Drake, who hit a hard shot through the traffic of an attempted header and a sprawling goalie, ripping into the top left corner for the score.

Clarkson picked up its second goal of the game early in the second half when Erick Aucancela made a quick turn and dropped a pass to James Nicholas, who dribbled in a few steps and hit a hard grounder with his left foot to the right side at 51:40.

Oneonta tied the game and took the lead for good in a span of 74 seconds just a few minutes later. Sipos again converted when he settled a header by Matt Howe and made a quick turn with a hard shot off his right foot at 58:22. The Dragons kept the pressure on with a goal from Lucas Fecci at 58:36 as he hit hard shot with his right foot from the top of box into the left corner.

The Red Dragons added an insurance goal late as Jeremy Pantoni outmaneuvered a defender just inside the penalty area near the left side. His shot curled into the top left corner at 85:56.

Besides a 13-7 lead in shots (6-3 shots on goal), Oneonta also had a 4-1 advantage in corner kick opportunities. Ian Donahue made two saves for the Knights and Nate Hanna stopped one shot for the Red Dragons.
